PhotoRec & TestDisk file undelete

PhotoRec & TestDisk file recovery and FAT, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS undelete programs allow you recover accidentally deleted photos, videos or other files on SD cards and most other digital camera media and memory.

PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks, CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged or reformatted.

TestDisk is a powerful free data recovery program! It was primarily designed to recover lost partitions, repair FAT/NTFS boot sector, NTFS MFT and Ext2/Ext3 superblock and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software or human error (such as accidentally deleting your Partition Table).

Solaris Legal Requirements

The Solaris 10 code can be obtained via a free Web download, obtaining a Solaris 10 media kit through the Sun store, receiving Solaris 10 pre-installed on Sun systems, among other methods. Use of the operating system is governed by the terms of the Software License Agreement (SLA).

In order to use the Solaris 10 Operating System for perpetual commercial use, each system running the Solaris 10 OS must have an entitlement to do so. The Entitlement Document is delivered to you either with a new Sun system, from Sun Services as part of your service agreement, or via e-mail when you register your systems through the Sun Download Center.

In addition, if you install the Solaris 10 OS on additional systems, you must register those systems to receive an additional Entitlement Document.

ABC – Always Be Copying

A New Moto for System Administrators
I noticed that nj_dodge and ekarjala have created a flickr group ABC – Always Be Capturing possibly inspired from the sales persons favorite moto "Always Be Closing" featured in the film Glengarry Glen Ross !

So following on from recent real world System Administration experience I've thought I'd try to come up with a ABC moto for SysAdmins !

First I thought of:

  • Always Be Backing Up

but the TLA of this is ABBU instead of ABC so I then thought of changing it slighty

  • Always Be Copying
  • Always Be Cloning (too virtualisation specific ?)

are there any better ABC motos for SysAdmins ?

Unbound DNS validating resolver

Unbound is a validating, recursive, and caching DNS resolver.

The C implementation of Unbound is developed and maintained by NLnet Labs. It is based on ideas and algorithms taken from a java prototype developed by Verisign labs, Nominet, Kirei and ep.net.

Unbound is designed as a set of modular components, so that also DNSSEC (secure DNS) validation and stub-resolvers (that do not run as a server, but are linked into an application) are easily possible.

The source code is under a BSD License.
