The FBI have discovered that DNSChanger’s malicious DNS servers were being used to automatically and involuntarily convert the DNS settings of millions of people around the world, then using that control to redirect valid URLs to malicious sites.

The FBI took over the servers, but realized fast they couldn’t simply shut them down. To do that would immediately take all infected Internet users offline, as without DNS it’s as though the Internet doesn’t work.

The FBI and other invested groups have campaigned for the remaining estimated 350,000 infected people to switch their DNS proactively to a secure service which infected users will now HAVE to do before 9 Jul 12 !

Unbound DNS validating resolver

Unbound is a validating, recursive, and caching DNS resolver.

The C implementation of Unbound is developed and maintained by NLnet Labs. It is based on ideas and algorithms taken from a java prototype developed by Verisign labs, Nominet, Kirei and ep.net.

Unbound is designed as a set of modular components, so that also DNSSEC (secure DNS) validation and stub-resolvers (that do not run as a server, but are linked into an application) are easily possible.

The source code is under a BSD License.

Google Apps HTML or CNAME verification

Google Apps now has two ways to verify your domain ownership.

You can either upload an HTML file with a ID specified by Google, or you can change the CNAME record for your domain using a SUBdomain specified by Google.

  1. Create a HTML verification file named "googlehostedservice.html" ,
  2. Copy the ID (googleAAAABBBBCCCCDDDD) into it, and upload it to http://your.domain/ .
  3. Once you have made the changes, make sure you can see the file at http://your.domain/googlehostedservice.html.

  1. Sign in to your Domain Hosting Service and locate the DNS management page.
  2. Use the SUBdomain to create a new CNAME record: googleAAAABBBBCCCCDDDD.your.domain
  3. And point the CNAME record to:google.com
