now we hear (from @openshiftcommons) that @adidas has made it more cost effective (read cheaper) to make (sorry i mean print) trainers using robots and 3D printers in germany than paying workers in indonesia $1/day

spent a whole week downloading 45G of ‘photos’ from my goog one / goog drive and then reuploading them as goog ‘unlimited’ photos i am now within my 15G free quota and wont have to pay another £1.50 for 100G next month

maybe you are using 45G of goog ie 30G above your free 15G quota and are having to pay google one for the extra space

well you can convert photos on your google drive and google one to free unlimited google photos cloud storage if you want

  • download google backup and sync app on your pc
  • enable google photo backup
  • enable google drive backup
  • wait for sync to complete (approx 1 hr for every 1G)
  • disable google drive sync
  • close google backup and sync
  • drag all photos from google drive folder to google photos folder
  • wait for sync to re upload photos to google photos

once you are happy photos have converted correctly

  • login to google drive google one web interface
  • delete google drive photo folders
  • check you are now using less than 15G
  • you can now cancel your google one subscription

the main danger / reason is

  • if you delete a photo from Google Drive, it’ll also get deleted from Google Photos

(why would you want to delete a photo from unlimited ! storage ?)

if fact all the deletion rules are just too complicated (and you will end up using and needing to pay for google drive or google one space)

and then goto

to check your settings and check that the

  • Create a Google Photos folder

setting

  • Automatically put your Google Photos in a folder in My Drive

is

  • set to OFF (or NO)

Uninstalling google drive will not cancel your subscription so to cancel a subscription

  • Go to play.google.com.
  • Check if you’re signed in to the correct Google Account.
  • On the left, click My subscriptions.
  • Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  • Click Manage and then Cancel Subscription.
