Its not too late to switch from NING to VOX !

NING will be closing ALL their free-of-charge BMNs and SMNs in Jul 2010 !

Over the last few years NING have built up one of the biggest 'free-of-charge' Business Media Network and Social Media Network customer bases on the web but they now plan to start charging everyone an average of $10/month/network from July 2010 !

I imagine they are assuming that their revenue will to go from £0M to £100M within the year – this may well be true – provided of course that enough of their customers don't switch to alternatives to NING such as VOX, WebJam or WetPaint than continue to be FREE OF CHARGE !

You can read aout all the new non-free NING pricing plans @ http://about.ning.com/announcement/plans.php !

android pixelpipe revisited

If you ever want to upload a photo or video to dozens of BMNs and SMNs with a single click try pixelpipe on your android, iphone or symbian mobile! pixelpipe now supports dozens of BMNs and SMNs including flickr, photobox, photobucket and VOX !

I'm currently only uploading to eight separate BMNs and SMNs but plan to add more soon !

pixelpipe will also save me a small fortune in mobile upload data costs since some UK 3G mobile networks charge between £1/M – £6/M (esp when roaming in europe).

So uploading 10 x 1M photos will only cost me £10 instead of £80, £160 or even £320 if i were on 32 photo BMNs and SMNs !

NING re-instates VOX-like multi social network features !

Yes after six months of campaining NING have just reinstated a number of "VOX" like multi social media network features ! On the 'new' NING you can now :

  • See email notifications from all your NING networks in one place !
  • Set default settings for all NEW NING networks !
  • See which OTHER NING networks your friends are members of ! (it's no longer TOP SECRET information if you WERE relying on this !)

However its still takes a few 1000 clicks to sync your preferences across all your existing NING networks (if you are a member of 50 or more) !

Thank You NING and keep following (re-enabling and adding) VOX like features and we'll keep following you !

TWO VOX bugs in one day !

In addition to my VOX ghost groups I have discovered VOX doesn't like spaces in photo filenames !

See http://osde-info.vox.com/library/post/google-map-widget-by-xantus.html

I also managed to get this error by open 8 posts from my library in separate tabs and trying to add them to the same group !

What is the difference between VOX and VIRB ?

VIRB is a place that lets you put all of the things that make you you – photos, videos, blogs – in one place. More specifically, VIRB is a vision of a social community – done right. A website that combines you, your interests, your friends and the things you like with music, art, fashion, film and more. Stay connected with your friends. Find new music. View and upload good videos, photos and more.

Isn't this the almost same as VOX ? If not maybe I need to sign up to VIRB as well ? Can you tell the difference ?

Cross posting is easy on VOX but not NING !

Here's a good example why I don't blog on NING (apart from their comment wall spaming system). To blog a single story about about Ed/X/Ubuntu I'd have to login / logout to / from each and every one of these NING networks/groups separately then cut & paste the same story nine times to each of these NING networks/groups !

Sorry NING but I would like some spare time to a have a first life !

Whoever created VOX single/two click cross network/group posting is a genius ! It's only taken me twelve clicks to cross post this to six VOX networks/groups !

flickr 2 VOX cross blogging posting tool !

Do you have a (VOX) blog?

If you do, you can connect to it via Flickr. Why? So you can post photos or video you see around here straight to your blog. When you go through the process, you have to connect to your blogging service first (by telling us the URL and your username & password), then you can choose a layout for each post (or create your own if you know a bit of HTML).
