lenovo thinkpad (inc X220, X230) BIOS setup problems and BIOS update #sysadmin
having problems getting into the BIOS !
options to try (after pressing power button or while pressing power button)
- ENTER key
- ESC key
- ThinkPad key
- removing PSU then rebooting
- or someone has even suggested (for windows 10 UEFI only) “C:> shutdown /fw /r /t 10”
lenovo system update for thinkpad is now available for windows 7 and windows 10
NOTE : despite what the online docs say the windows store windows 10 lenovo vantage app does NOT detect same updates as the native windows 7 & 10 lenovo system update app
the lenovo thinkpad X220 vantage app in the windows app store is out of date instead download the latest vantage app from
the lenovo thinkpad X220 system update app does not detect old BIOS versions so you will need to manually go to
to download and install the latest BIOS

IBM Lenovo ThinkPad X201, X220, T410 or T420 ? how can you choose between them ?
i guess if you want Win 10 & webcam the problem is solved
if you get the error
No Bootable Device error when booting to Dell Windows 10 media
it is because all Dell Windows 10 recovery media (Win10 recovery DVD [Clean install only from DVD] or WIN10 recovery USB key) require the system BIOS to be configured in the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) mode.
There will be no changes made to the Dell Windows 10 recovery media because, as by Microsoft design, Windows 10 is intended to be used in the UEFI mode configuration.
but that CANT be true ? i am sure i have a Lenovo Thinkpad that only has BIOS (not UEFI) that works fine with Windows 10 !
if you are an ibm lenovo thinkpad t60 use with an ati mobility radeon x1300 graphics processor you wont be able to get windows10 !
