# yum list available sw_col-\*
# yum --disablerepo="*" --enablerepo="*_SoftwareCollections" list available

according to red hat you can only install from http://www.xfce.org/download

but if you add the fedoraproject EPEL repo you can install xfce desktop onto oracle linux 7 (and red hat ?)

# wget https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm
# yum install epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm
# yum groupinstall xfce

then logout click options and choose xfce session instead of gnome and login

# yum repolist

BTW if you are using centos you can simply use rpm / yum

# yum install epel-release
# yum groupinstall "X Window system"
# yum groupinstall "Xfce"


howto install openoffice on oracle linux 6

howto install openoffice 3.4 on centos 6, red hat 6 and oracle enterprise linux 6

  • download openoffice 3.4 rpm tgz from http://www.openoffice.org/download/
  • untar
  • cd en-US/RPMS
  • yum –nogpgcheck localinstall *.rpm
  • yum –nogpgcheck localinstall desktop-integration/openoffice.org3.4-redhat-menus-3.4-9590.noarch.rpm

enjoy however this will not work for oracle enterprise linux 5 you’ll need to use ooo 3.3 instead
